Serving children and families across Brown County, Texas

Services

Meeting the needs
that can’t wait.

When a CPS caseworker identifies a need for a Brown County child, we work to turn that request into real, practical help.

Sometimes help is
something you can hold.

These programs put something directly into a child’s hands. Some answer an emergency. Some mark an occasion. All of them go to a specific Brown County child.

Emergency Needs

We spend the largest share here because the most urgent needs are the ones nobody sees coming. A bed. A car seat. A prescription. A safety item a caseworker needs today, not next month. When the call comes, this is what lets us answer it.

Family Support

Help that steadies the household around a child. Meal boxes when the pantry is empty. Gas cards so a family can make it to visits, appointments, and court dates. The everyday, non-emergency support that keeps a family going.

Kinship Care Support

Support for Brown County children living with relatives or trusted caregivers, providing clothing, school supplies, hygiene items, and everyday necessities they need.

Back to School

Every September, we provide hygiene boxes to local campuses so a child who needs one never has to ask twice. We also help kinship families cover the cost of getting a child ready for the school year.

Birthdays

Every child in our care receives a gift card for their birthday. It’s a small thing that says something big: somebody remembered, and this day is still yours.

Christmas

Every child in our care receives a Christmas gift. We couldn’t do it alone — community partners across Brown County help us make sure nobody is missed.

Special Requests

The needs that don’t fit anywhere else, and often matter most. A child who needs certified copies of their birth certificate before they can be registered for services. A one-off cost standing between a child and something they’re entitled to. When a request doesn’t fit a category, we look at it anyway.

Inside the CPS Office

Two rooms this community made better.

Some of the hardest hours of a child’s life are spent waiting inside a CPS office.

We can’t change why they’re there. We can change what the room feels like. The Board helps decorate and stock the Comfort Room at the local CPS office—the space where children wait, do schoolwork, and pass the time while adults sort out what happens next. A room that feels considered instead of institutional is a small thing that lands on a child at exactly the wrong moment in their life.

Down the hall is the second room. That one’s called the Rainbow Room.

The Rainbow Room

A room full of help, ready the moment a child needs it.

Inside the local CPS office is a room stocked with brand-new essentials for children in crisis. It’s called the Rainbow Room.

When a caseworker needs diapers, formula, clothing, shoes, hygiene supplies, blankets, toys, books, or another essential for a child, they can turn to the Rainbow Room for help. That means a need can be met without waiting for a donation drive to start or someone to go searching for the right item.

The Rainbow Room is funded as its own program, with its own designated funds. A gift given to the Rainbow Room stays with the Rainbow Room.

This community stocks the shelves. And because they’re always being used, they always need filling. Keeping the Rainbow Room stocked is one of the simplest ways to turn your generosity into something a Brown County child can use right away.

Help Fill the Shelves

Drop off new items at the Rainbow Room, inside the local CPS office. All items must be new and unused, and we distribute them to local Brown County children. We cannot accept used items.

100% of items received are cataloged and provided directly to local children.

Not every dollar goes into a child’s hands.

Some of it goes into the community and the system around them — the awareness that prevents harm, the training that sharpens the people responding to it, and the celebrations that mark the good days. That work matters too.

Child Abuse Prevention

Every April, we join communities across Texas for Child Abuse Prevention Month with a county-wide awareness campaign and our signature fundraiser, Karaoke4Kids: Battle of the Businesses.

Adoption Day

When a Brown County adoption is finalized, we celebrate it properly — a party and gifts for a day that’s been a long time coming.

Conferences & Training

We fund training for our own board members and for the CPS staff and social workers serving local children. Better-equipped people make better outcomes for every child they touch.

School Assistance

School counselors see needs before almost anyone else. When one reaches out about a child — beyond the hygiene boxes we already send to campuses — we respond.

Public Relations

We show up at the family-friendly, community-driven events that make Brownwood what it is. Being visible is part of the work: it’s how people learn these children exist and how they can help.

Heart Gallery

We support the Heart Gallery of Northwest Texas, which pairs volunteer photographers with Texas youth waiting for adoptive families so their communities can see them, not just their case numbers.

From a caseworker’s request to a child who needs it.

Most of the help we provide starts with someone already working directly with the child.

01

A caseworker identifies a need.

A CPS caseworker working with a Brown County child identifies something specific they need: a bed, clothing, food, a car seat, or another essential.

02

The request comes to us.

The caseworker brings the need to the Board so we can determine how we can help.

03

We match it to the right program.

An urgent request draws on Emergency Needs. A school-year request draws on Back to School. A request that fits nowhere becomes a Special Request. It’s why we can say yes to a bed on Tuesday and a birth certificate on Thursday.

04

We turn the request into help.

Once approved, available funds are used to provide the actual item or service the child needs rather than giving cash directly.

05

Help reaches the child.

Working through the caseworker, the requested item or service gets where it needs to go.

It’s a simple process built around one goal: getting practical help to a Brown County child who needs it.

Turn a need into something
a child can hold.

Give an item. Fill a shelf. Fund a request. However you choose to help, your support becomes something a Brown County child actually needs.
